Still Have Questions?
Routes extension aftercare products are specially formulated for use with Routes hair extensions. Our vegan-friendly formulas gently cleanse while deeply moisturising, helping to maintain softness, shine, and overall hair quality. With consistent use, they are proven to support longer-lasting extensions and deliver smoother, silkier results over time.
For the best long-term results, correct daily and weekly care is essential. Always fully detangle your hair before washing. Massage shampoo gently at the roots only, allowing the foam to run through the mid-lengths and ends without scrubbing. Apply conditioner from mid-length to ends only, avoiding bonds, tapes, or weft tracks. Hair extensions must be thoroughly blow-dried after washing – never left damp – as drying in sections keeps the hair smooth and helps prevent matting. Use the protect and feed spray by misting through mid-lengths and ends before brushing or styling. Extensions respond best to consistent care routines, and the better your maintenance, the longer your hair will last.
To qualify for the Routes extended hair quality guarantee, you must purchase and use the correct monthly amount of Routes shampoo, conditioner, and Protect & Feed spray alongside your hair extensions. These products work together to cleanse, condition, and protect the hair correctly throughout wear.
The length of the extended hair quality guarantee depends on the hair range purchased:
- Luxury Hair: 120 days of cover
- Premium Gold Hair: 180 days of cover
- MVP Hair: 210 days of cover
The required aftercare products must be purchased alongside your extensions to activate and maintain this guarantee.
Using non-Routes products can significantly reduce the lifespan of your hair extensions, in many cases by up to half or worse. Use of alternative products will also void the extended guarantee, as they are not formulated to protect extension hair correctly.
We do not recommend using sulphate-free shampoo with Routes hair extensions. Routes aftercare products contain a mild sulphate specifically chosen to effectively cleanse oils, product build-up, and daily impurities from the hair. This is then balanced with our hair extension conditioner, which restores the moisture needed after cleansing. It is a common misconception that sulphate-free shampoos are better, when in reality they often rely on alternative chemicals and frequently fail to cleanse the hair effectively.
Yes, but additional care is essential. When on holiday, be mindful of suncreams, as some contain chemicals that can cause a colour-changing chemical reaction with hair extensions. If swimming, this should be avoided where possible. If you do swim, always first saturate the hair in bottled water, then clip it up and protect it under a hat or swimming cap to reduce absorption of chlorine or saltwater.
For pre-bonded K Tip hair extensions such as nail tips and flat tips, we recommend using our professional Bond Remover for safe and controlled removal. For tape-in hair extensions, we also offer a dedicated Tape Hair Remover designed to dissolve adhesive gently without damaging the natural hair or the extensions.
